Services Directory
Basingstoke Voluntary Action has launched an online Services Directory, offering a fresh new look that makes it easier than ever for local residents to find out what’s on offer. This directory can be accessed via the BVA website and is dedicated to showcasing the various services local community organisations like yourself offer to the community. There are a number of services to choose from and browse through: https://www.bvaction.org.uk/directory.
Burghclere Baroque
Burghclere Baroque is an organisation set up by local violinist Theresa Caudle in 2020 to promote the performance and study of baroque music in and around Burghclere.
Concerts will principally take place in The Church of the Ascension and educational projects will be held at Theresa’s house, the Portal Hall and in the church.

The WI
The WI began in Burghclere and Newtown villages in 1919 and has been going continually ever since.
We are open to all. We meet monthly and offer a chance to meet others, a chance to listen to interesting talks, and a chance to join smaller interest groups. At the moment these include a book club, mah-jong, a lunch club, cinema visits, occasional skittles and sometimes short manageable walks.
Each year we try a few outings and, in recent years, these have included a shopping trip to Clark’s Village, a boat trip on the Solent, and a visit to Hampton Court.
At the present time we average at meetings about 45 members and meet on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 9.45am in the Portal Hall. There is usually a guest speaker and the obligatory tea, coffee and biscuits. We have a small membership fee per year and always welcome new members.
We are part of a wider group which includes, among others, close links with the Kingsclere WI and those in East Woodhay, and we are all members of Hampshire Federation. If you would like to come along and see for yourself please just call in.

News from The Villages
News from the Villages is the Parish Magazine and covers all the Villages in our area
Namely, Burghclere, Newtown, Ecchinswell, Bishops Green, Sydmonton and Old Burghclere.
It is delivered to 640 households by volunteers.
It is published 11 times a year, and with a fair wind, should arrive on your doormat on the first of the month, excluding August. In it, you can find all sorts of information, from diary dates of jumble sales, concerts, meetings and other events, to reports of the goings on at Parish Council meetings in the villages and of organisations like the WI and local schools.
In the middle of the magazine there is a message from the Rector, a list of the church services taking place in the three parish churches, and in side the front cover is a list of telephone numbers of people and organisations around the parish.
If you need something, or want to sell something, you can let the editor know and put in your own (free) advertisement. There is also a wealth of commercial advertising, so you can leaf through and find the number of your local cab firm, builders, MP, the pub, shrub nursery, milkman, joiner or toddler group.
There are lots of other bits and pieces in the magazine: Nature Notebook, local history, a seasonal recipe, book reviews, bad jokes corner and sometimes a cartoon. What you see in the magazine depends largely on what is happening and who has sent something in.
Contributions and suggestions are very welcome from all age groups. Ideally, please contact the editor, or send in contributions by email to: susan@oxdrove.com. Old versions are held in the Hampshire Record Office (HRO).
It is much better if copy is sent electronically as that minimises the chance for errors to creep in. You can also telephone Susan on: 01635 278295 if you would like to discuss a contribution or to receive “News from the Villages”.
A year’s subscription will cost £4.00.
Police contact information
If you’d like to make your local PCSO aware of something in your area, ask them a question, request some crime prevention advice, invite them to an community engagement or just arrange to meet them. The best way to contact them is via e-mail as they all work different shifts. For Burghclere, contacts at Basingstoke Rural (based at Tadley) are:
Basingstoke.Rural.Police@hampshire.pnn.police.uk
The above are supported by Sgt’s, PC’s (including many new students) and Special PC’s (volunteers) across our Neighbourhood and Response and Patrol teams.
Please DON’T report crimes via e-mail!!
When you find yourself in need of contacting the Police, do you know the best way to get in touch?

Sandham Memorial Chapel
Nestled in a quiet corner of Burghclere, Sandham Memorial Chapel hides an unexpected treasure – an epic series of large paintings by the acclaimed war artist Sir Stanley Spencer. The paintings depict scenes inspired by the artist’s own experience in the First World War as a medical orderly and a soldier. The chapel’s pretty orchard is perfect for picnics and its garden of reflection provides a peaceful space for quiet contemplation. There is a National Trust car park opposite the chapel.
